Best Laptops Under £300 – 2017

Your’e going to need a laptop. Simple as that. There’s a multitude of debates as to whether a lap top or desk top is the better choice. For us, the belief is laptops will win hands down. Do you really want to be confined to a desk? Isn’t it better to be able to work on the move if necessary?

You may at some stage be office based, but there will invariably be times when you need to up and leave at short notice. A laptop is the way forward. As you know, there’s literally thousands of laptops on the market, brands and models galore. How do you know where to start?

You’ll need a powerful yet lightweight machine, capable of withstanding the rigours of every day use. You need a copious amount of memory and storage (although the “Cloud” is becoming more and more prevalent these days!), and a processor fast enough that you can get stuff done when it needs doing!

Whether you’re a Windows or Mac user (there’s a divide in our office for sure!), we think we’ve given a wide choice of the best laptops for under £300.

As always, feel free to email us your thoughts on

Lenovo ideapad 110 15.6-Inch Notebook

Why we like it: Slimline and lightweight, the Lenovo ideapad is great for those that want to work on the move. Almost silent in operation. Comes packed with 4GB ram, 500GB HDD and a 15.6 inch screen, and typically the battery will last for around 3 and half maybe 4 hours (high screen brightness and constant use), so it packs a bit of a punch for its price point.

Acer Aspire ES1-531 15.6 inch Laptop

Why we like it: A great little touch screen laptop, perfect for those hard to read illustrations or charts. PInch to zoom technology is highly responsive. 4GB ram, 500GB HDD and a 15.6 inch screen. This model also comes with a cool bit of software called Acer BlueLightShield. This basically is designed to reduce eye strain, making staring at the screen for prolonged periods if time even easier.

Good speed for streaming and downloading, and all in all is a great investment. Cracking value for money.

ASUS X540SA 15.6 inch Notebook

Why we like it: Coming in under 2kg (1.9 to be precise) this little guy is perfect for being on the move. It comes with IceCool Technology which in English means it stops the unit from overheating. Battery life is usually around 5 or 6 hours on constant use, which is awesome. Can be a bit on the slow side, but it depends on how you quantify slow.

Great sound, great screen resolution, overall a pretty decent bit of kit.

Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series 15.6 inch Laptop

Why we like it: The Intel Core i3 Processor makes this bit of kit nice and nippy. Dell is a brand synonymous with IT excellence, and this laptop doesn’t let the side down. The build quality and reliability is excellent. Does everything you’d expect a day to day use laptop to do.

Very smooth operationally and great sound & picture quality. Setting it up to your home network (printer etc.) is really straight forward.

A little heavier than others of a similar size, but it feels sturdy with it. It’s quite comforting in a strange way!

HP EliteBook 8470P 14 inch Notebook

Why we like it: This 14 inch display laptop is a great all-rounder. The only thing it’s not so good at is gaming, but if you’re looking for a work laptop, games are irrelevant anyway. Core i5 Processor is a speedy little whip, so streaming and downloading large files is a relative doddle.

It’s a solid, business class laptop, more than capable of keeping up with the day to day running of a super busy business person. It’s solid enough to withstand the odd bump and bash (its London Underground ready!)

Like most things it’s a question of what you need a laptop to do, there are cheaper around for a similar spec, I think the price here reflects the protection of the laptop. If you’re anything like me, that’s a saviour!
